Duncan Hines Yellow Cake recipe by Avoir Chaud

I wanted to make a yellow cake but the recipes I found was either too bland, dry and crumbly.  I found a yellow cake recipe that desperately needed some help and love.  So here my recipe for yellow cake.  Follow the directions to a T and you will have perfect results.  There are a few tips and tricks I will share with you all soon, on a upcoming cake blog.  Also at the end of this blog I will embed my snapguide profile to this cake recipe.  If you are a first time baker you can see step by step instructions with photos or you can head over to my youtube channel.  The link is at the bottom of this post.

For the best success you must use high quality ingredients.  Using cheap flour and horrible baking powder will give you terrible results.  A lot of people do not realize when baking, you must use high quality ingredients for great success.

You’ll need
2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter or margerine, room temperature
1 1/4 cups sugar
3 large eggs, room temperature
1 tablespoon pure vanilla
3/4 cup whole milk room temp
1/2 cup sour cream

1. Sift together all of the dry ingredients.

2. In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Once the butter and sugar is creamed together, add one egg at a time beating well after each addition.

4. Alternately add the flour, sour cream and milk. Add half of the flour, mix until combined. Then add all of the milk and sour cream; mix until combined. Then add the remaining flour, then mix until combined. Do not over beat this mix once you’ve added the flour. Over mixing can cause the cake to become dry and it will have a cornbread texture.

5.  Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 8 9-inch cake pans. Divide the batter between 2 pans and bake in a preheated 350 degree F. oen for 20 to 30 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean fro the middle. Cool in the pan for 3 minutes, then invert them on to a wire rack and allow them to cool completely.  Frost how desired

For a 9 x 13 pan - Baked at 350 degrees F. for 20 to 35 minutes.
